Please click on the video below to watch our full tutorial!&nbsp;<\/strong>(9 min)<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"t-1614179412855\">Color Harmonies<\/h3>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at some color pairing that work well together!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19688\" width=\"200\" data-init-width=\"400\" height=\"202\" data-init-height=\"403\" title=\"Complementary\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Complementary.jpg\" data-width=\"200\" data-height=\"202\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-23\" center-v-d=\"false\" ml-d=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Complementary colors &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Complementary colors are where you choose two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel. Using this color palette in a composition gives you a very striking result due to the high contrast between colors.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19692\" width=\"200\" data-init-width=\"400\" height=\"202\" data-init-height=\"403\" title=\"Split-Complementary\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Split-Complementary.jpg\" data-width=\"200\" data-height=\"202\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-23\" center-v-d=\"false\" ml-d=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Split Complimentary &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">This is similar to complementary colors, but this time you choose a base color and then on the opposite side of the color wheel, choose the two adjacent colors to the base color\u2019s complement. It\u2019s still energetic but not quite as striking as complimentary.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19694\" width=\"200\" data-init-width=\"400\" height=\"202\" data-init-height=\"403\" title=\"Triad\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Triad.jpg\" data-width=\"200\" data-height=\"202\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-10\" center-v-d=\"false\" ml-d=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Triad &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">The triad color scheme involves you drawing a triangle on the color wheel to select three colors. This creates quite a vibrant palette, so it\u2019s best to use one color as the base color and the other two as supplementary colors, to allow a good balance.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19695\" width=\"200\" data-init-width=\"400\" height=\"202\" data-init-height=\"403\" title=\"Analogus\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Analogus.jpg\" data-width=\"200\" data-height=\"202\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-23\" center-v-d=\"false\" ml-d=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Analogous &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">For this color scheme, you pick colors adjacent to each other and rely on values, tones and shades to create contrast. This color palette is useful when you want to rely on the meaning of colors.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19697\" width=\"200\" data-init-width=\"400\" height=\"202\" data-init-height=\"403\" title=\"Tetradic\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Tetradic.jpg\" data-width=\"200\" data-height=\"202\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-10\" center-v-d=\"false\" ml-d=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tetradic &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Here you pick four colors on a rectangle within the color wheel (essentially this can be divided into two complementary pairs). It\u2019s more complicated than the other combinations, but if used well with a good balance between the colors, it can produce great compositions.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19699\" width=\"407\" data-init-width=\"750\" height=\"407\" data-init-height=\"750\" title=\"monochromatic-large\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/monochromatic-large.jpeg\" data-width=\"407\" data-height=\"407\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-17.39100000000002\" ml-d=\"-0.811999999999955\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Monochromatic color scheme &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">This palette uses a single hue but combines different shades, tones and tints to create interest and attract attention.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"\"><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19700\" width=\"407\" data-init-width=\"750\" height=\"150\" data-init-height=\"276\" title=\"Achromatic color -large\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Achromatic-color-large.jpeg\" data-width=\"407\" data-height=\"150\" style=\"\" mt-d=\"-17.39100000000002\" ml-d=\"-0.811999999999955\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Achromatic color scheme &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Here you rely on different shades of grey. While you may think working with just black and white would create cold, menacing images, it\u2019s not the case, and you can produce cute illustrations too.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t forget to check out the video to see useful examples of all of these color combinations to help you get a better understanding of the different harmonies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"t-1614179412856\">60-30-10 rule<\/h3>\n<p><span><img alt=\"\" data-id=\"19706\" width=\"829\" data-init-width=\"992\" height=\"519\" data-init-height=\"621\" title=\"60-30_rule\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/60-30_rule.jpeg\" data-width=\"829\" data-height=\"519\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designtruffle.com\/60-30-10-rule-help-choose-right-colors-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">source image<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Originally used in interior design but can be used in your artwork and illustrations too! Here are some rules to follow!<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p>Your base color should usually be a high chroma value or pure color and would make up around 60% of the composition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p>Your supplementary color should make up approximately 30% of the composition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p>An accent color that stands out, and would typically be a complementary color to your base color, makes up the final 10%.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"t-1614179412857\">Perception of color<\/h3>\n<p>As covered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rfmJI8BqxC8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">part 1 video<\/a>, colors have different meanings, but it\u2019s also important to take into account the demographic of the target audience. colors can be perceived differently by genders, by age groups and in different parts of the world. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/graphic-design-theory-color-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for a quick refresh on color meanings!<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"t-1614179412858\">Color blindness<\/h3>\n<p>Color blindness is the decreased ability to see the difference between colors. There are three main color blindness types, and these affect men more than women. It\u2019s essential to understand how color blindness can impact your work, especially for typography, where it can affect legibility.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/colororacle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener\">Color Oracle <\/a>is a great free tool that can simulate the different color blindness types so you can add more contrast between colors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p>Photoshop also has the two main types of color blindness as color proofing options (under proof setup in the view menu).
